Louisville’s Grawemeyer Award in Education

Three Yale scholars have won the 2008 University of Louisville’s Grawemeyer Award in Education for their book, A Vision for Universal Preschool Education. Edward F. Zigler, Ph.D., Sterling Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Walter S. Gilliam, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Child Study Center, and Stephanie M. Jones, Ph.D. ’02, argue in their 2006 book that making preschool available to children aged 3 and older would improve the school readiness of the nation’s young children, fill a gap for working families, lower the high school dropout rate, reduce crime and boost the economy.
