Class of 2007: 5th Reunion

Seventeen classmates, significant others, and friends escaped from the hospital to spend the weekend in New Haven for our fifth-year reunion. Taking a break from his first year of cardiology fellowship in New York, Ryan Kaple, along with his wife Ciara Dockery, spent some quality time exploring campus with Paul and Lucy Kalanithi, who made the trek from northern California so Paul could finally see Harvey Cushing’s collection of brains (don’t be alarmed, Paul is still in neurosurgery residency at Stanford). Also making the trek from afar were James Troy, who currently works for UCSF as a hematology/oncology hospitalist, Amy Meadows who works at the University of Pittsburgh, and Alex Diaz De Villalvilla who is completing medicine-pediatrics at Brown.

In addition to the early group who spent time on campus on Friday and early Saturday, the remainder of the Class of 2007 reunion attendees came up on Saturday for a Yale-sponsored happy hour at the newly renovated Mory’s. Saif Rathore, who is headed up to Boston for internal medicine after finally finishing medical school (just kidding Saif), reconnected with old friends Barbara Wexelman, who is finishing up general surgery in New York, Mary Bailey (Dombrowski), Leon Boudarakis, and Hristos Kaimakliotis, among others. All were excited to spend some quality time together over free drinks and appetizers (thank you Yale!). A surprise visit by Dean Alpern to say hello to his favorite class and a stop at BAR later in the night for mashed potatoes and bacon pizza topped off the reunion festivities.

While some of us were lucky enough not to be on call and make the reunion in person, others sent emails, texts, phone calls, and even checked-in on Facebook to send their best. These included Misaki Kiguchi, who was in the operating room at the time fulfilling her vascular surgery residency requirements at the University of Pittsburgh, Maulik Shah who was graduating from UCSF Neurology residency, and Chris Janson and Michael Swetye, who were nearby at Princeton celebrating their 10th reunion from college. They all promise to be at our 10th-year reunion in 2017.

Thank you for all the help in organizing the reunion and to all those who took the time out to make it so special. Here’s hoping everyone can make it back to Yale for 2017!
